Family Counselling

What is family counselling?

Family counselling (sometimes called family therapy) is a space where families can come together to better understand each other, improve communication, and work through challenges as a unit.

Rather than focusing on one person as the “problem,” family counselling looks at patterns, relationships and interactions within the family. The aim is to help everyone feel heard, respected and supported, while finding more helpful ways of relating to one another.

When family counselling can help

Families seek relationship counselling (or counselling for families) for many different reasons.

You might be experiencing:

  • Ongoing family conflict or frequent arguments
  • Breakdowns in family communication
  • Tension between parents and children or teens
  • Changes such as separation, blended family dynamics or relocation
  • Stress, anxiety or emotional overwhelm affecting the whole family
  • A sense of disconnection or feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns

You don’t need to be in crisis to begin online family counselling. Many families seek support early to prevent issues from becoming more entrenched.

How online family counselling works

All family counselling sessions at Living Counselling are offered via online, allowing families to attend together from the comfort of home.

Online sessions:

  • Are held via secure video
  • Allow family members to join from the same or different locations
  • Reduce the stress of travel and scheduling
  • Make it easier for busy families to attend consistently

As an experienced family counsellor, I guide conversations in a calm, structured way, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to speak and be heard. Depending on the needs of your family, sessions may include the whole family together, parents on their own, or individual sessions with children or adolescents. This flexible approach allows space for different voices, reduces pressure, and supports meaningful progress over time. The pace is gentle, and sessions are adapted to suit the ages and needs of those attending.
